The Little Black Jacket

While we have followed high fashion religiously since girlhood, what really excites and inspires us is a creative juxtaposition of art, culture and fashion. We felt like revisiting Karl Lagerfeld's "The Little Black Jacket" project, which featured a film, book and traveling exhibitions ranging from 2012-14, with celebrities and bon vivants photographed by King Karl in the same iconic black Chanel jacket. We could extol the virtues of a classic black jacket, but Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld do it best. Enjoy.

The A20 Mix

Sensory memory is a fascinating concept. Everyone has a special song that brings back fond memories. For that reason, we are quite protective over our store playlist. In fact, we've had numerous customers ask us to write down artists we have on heavy rotation. A few years ago, we made a mix of some of our favorite shop tunes. In the Bubble

Typically, when you hear the term, "in the bubble," it carries the negative connotation of someone who mindlessly follows the crowd without looking outside of the immediate. At A20, we are proponents of people living in their own bubble, impervious to social norms or boring expectations. Melvin Sokosky is one such person, both literally with his bubble series and figuratively with his visionary style. His fashion photography (sans photoshop or formal training!) remains inspiring and relevant more than half a century later. Enjoy.

Have you ever wondered where trends originate? Or why designers often have similar collections or looks? The answer is quite simple. Premium and Contemporary level labels receive a book of trends from a company whose exhaustive research of world culture (art, history, film, literature, music, etc.) provides themes, shapes and Pantone color palettes as inspiration. This ensures that designers are relevant to projected market demands. Lower end lines then copy the original designs by their high style counterparts and produce them with unethical labor and low quality fabrication.
