Look We Love: Breton Stripes

One style you are always sure to find at Augusta Twenty among our sea of prints and colors is the perfect breton striped top.  This classic look takes inspiration from French naval uniforms of the 1800's and was introduced into mainstream fashion by Coco Chanel in an effort to add chic ease to the modern woman's wardrobe, a far cry from the corsetry of that day.  Later immortalized in cinema and by style icons like Jackie Kennedy Onassis, this has become a must-have staple.

Muse of the Moment + Quote of the Day

The perfectly undone hair.  The dramatic smoky eye.  The haute couture made effortlessly wearable.  There are so many reasons to love and emulate the eternally stylish Carine Roitfeld.  Somehow, we doubt she sits around obsessing over what to wear or how to style her hair.  Her look and attitude epitomize cool.

Who is your style muse?

Quote of the Day

Today, we are thankful for our senses and the ability to create beauty wherever we go.  Whatever is holding you back, let it go.  Many of us walk through life with 20/20 vision, yet can't see what is right in front of us.  Be kind.  Connect with your true self.  Wear something on Harper's Bazaar's "out" list.
Give someone (yourself included) a break today.

Look We Love: Tibi's Rococo Prints

Quote of the Day

Not only is it impolite to present less than your personal best, it is also disadvantageous.  By taking a little extra time and dignity with your daily ensemble, you will be taken more seriously both professionally and personally.  Think you'll get bumped up to first class wearing yoga pants?  Think again.  Always strive to be the best version of yourself.  After all, the first impression one makes is visual.  What do you want to say to the world?

Quote of the Day

Why don't you...
don your favorite cocktail dress on a Tuesday morning just for the thrill of it?
eat pizza on your fine china?
wear your Louboutins whilst housekeeping?
After all, life is what you make of it.  Don't shop for occasions; live a life worth dressing for.
We think Diana Vreeland would agree.

Look We Love: Emmy's Edition

Here are our favorite looks from the 2013 Emmy Awards:

Giuliana Rancic has enough Fashion Police experience to know that this Tadashi Shoji stunner is the perfect pop-color against the red carpet.

While we'd change the styling of this look (the clutch is too clunky and the jewelry nonexistent!), Elisabeth Moss' mod hair and classic Hollywood-inspired beaded gown by Dolce & Gabbana are such a beautiful balance for this sweet-faced actress.

This dress seems a bit too formal and bridal for the Emmy's, but Kerry Washington is so stunning in this Marchesa creation that she makes our list.

Kiernan Shipka is so fun and age-appropriate in this floral frock by Delpozo.

We simply can't choose which look we love most: Rose Byrne in Calvin Klein or Kate Mara in J. Mendel.  Both women are dressed in flattering, event-appropriate gowns.  The styling is perfection and right-on-trend.  Who were your favorites?

Wear This, Not That: Military Inspiration

As we always preach, life is all about fine lines and making wise - or in the case of fashion, chic - choices.  Today's case in point: military inspiration.

Wear This:

Stars give a nod to military patriotism without being too literal and will still be pretty and relevant in your wardrobe for seasons to come.

Nail colors are an easy and inexpensive way to try a trend without permanence.

Olive or khaki and black can be a super modern and chic color palette, depending on the cut of the garment.

Epaulets are a fun detail on trenches or shirt dresses that add interest, texture, and a touch of military inspiration.

Not That:

Sad, droopy camo tops are a very literal interpretation of the military trend and go a little too "Duck Dynasty" to be considered Fashion with a capital 'F'.  Besides, isn't it humorlessly ironic to serve up a military look in an over-sized bohemian shape?

Camouflage chinos are a look that has been done to death and can read young and unsophisticated.

See the difference?  By investing in lasting styles and abandoning the ephemeral, you will collect a versatile and timeless wardrobe.

Have a beautiful day!

Wear This, Not That: Chevrons

Life is all about fine lines and making wise - or in the case of fashion, chic - choices.
Case in point: chevron stripes

Wear This:  Luxurious artisanal weaves by iconic Italian design house Missoni

Not That:  Charlie Brown chevrons go a little juniors-section-at-the-mall and are almost always made of the cheapest polyester at unethical sweatshops.  This look screams mass-produced and inexpensive.

"Good grief!"  The fundamental difference is quality and sophistication.

Have a beautiful day!
