Quote of the Day

Ever start the day off as a Pollyanna...

...and end the day feeling like Nene Leakes?

Happens to the best of us.

Look We Love: Met Gala 2014 Edition

2014's Charles James-themed Met Gala was a less-than-thrilling motif for the famed event.  Fresh off the heels of awards season, we've had our fill of the beautiful gowns that fit with this year's glamorous couture dress code.  Unsolicited opinions aside, here are some sartorial stand-outs from fashions biggest affair.

Lauren Santo Domingo always manages to be event-appropriate and fashion forward.  Kudos on this striking Oscar de la Renta selection.

Taylor Swift stole our hearts with her unabashedly girlish Oscar de la Renta confection.  This ballet pink gown photographs beautifully from every angle.

Who better to wear this exquisite dress straight off the Marchesa runway than legendary supermodel Karolina Kurkova?

Anne Hathaway took the standout minimalist award in Calvin Klein Collection.  The color and tailoring of this two-piece ensemble are stunning.

Our best-dressed runner-up would have to go to supermodel/it-girl Cara Delevigne in Stella McCartney.  The styling is perfection and every detail is right on-trend and age-appropriate.

Beyonce takes the best-dressed title for the evening in her head-turning Givenchy look.  This ensemble suits her trademark style while embodying the spirit of the Met Gala - avant garde high fashion.

Who were your favorites from the evening?  What would you have worn?

Muse of the Moment + Quote of the Day

If you are in search of a great book or film for the weekend, you are sure to find inspiration in the story of Philippe Petit.  Committing "the most elegant crime of the century," Petit orchestrated a tight rope walk in 1974 between the top of the World Trade Center towers, taunting security officers as he danced back and forth between the two buildings at 1,350 feet above ground for 45 minutes.  We love yoga as much as the next girl, but this gentleman possesses superhuman balance to combat the winds at that height!  All charges were dropped against him in exchange for a free performance for children in Central Park.

Colum McCann's novel, "Let the Great World Spin," uses Petit's coup to weave together the lives of a diverse range of New Yorkers against the backdrop of the 1970s.  If you love New York City, character studies, and historical novels, this is the read for you.

Inject a little passion into your weekend adventures...

In 2008, a fascinating documentary film was released, giving an inside peek at his process and execution alongside interviews with Petit himself.

A modern day Petit is pictured below accepting an award at the 2009 Oscars.

Follow your dreams this weekend, wherever they may take you!

Look We Love: Oscar's 2014 Edition

If you're like us, the most exciting part of awards season is the red carpet fashion.  The following are our superlatives from the 2014 Oscar Awards.  We'll start with the best dressed gentlemen, since they are so often overlooked.

Jared Leto steps out of the box in a white Saint Laurent dinner jacket complete with red bow tie and Neil Lane jewelry.

Kevin Spacey looks ultra dapper in a midnight blue tux from Burberry.

The best-dressed couple award would have to go to the eternally stylish Diane Kruger in Valentino and her handsome date, Pacey Whitter - oops, we mean - Josh Jackson, in a chocolate Berluti tux at the Vanity Fair party.

The trend of the evening was definitely frosty gowns in all shades of metallic white.

Jessica Biel's Chanel gown was beautiful, while her Tiffany accessories and messy hair left us a little bored.

Naomi Watts looked super-sexy in tailored Calvin Klein and unique Bulgari jewels.

Kate Hudson usually gets it right on the red carpet and this Versace and Neil Lane combo just may be her best yet.

Cate Blanchett is our best dressed pick for the evening, per usual.  Her Armani Prive gown and 1940s coiffure were pure glamour.

A few honorable mentions:

Lady Gaga looked other-worldly in this Versace creation and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Several ladies went low key in black this year.  While critics have raved about Charlize Theron's dress, we think Anne Hathaway did it better in Gucci and Neil Lane.

Jennifer Lawrence's hair and Neil Lane accessories were stunning, but the Dior dress was a little too reminiscent of Michelle Williams's Louis Vuitton ensemble from the 2012 Oscar's, pictured below.

The belle of the ball was definitely Lupita Nyong'o in custom Prada and stunning Fred Leighton jewelry.  This was truly her night to shine and while she pops in a more saturated color, this princess-style gown worked beautifully for her special night.

Who were your favorites from the evening?
